Revising for our British History exam, and this one still has me a little stumped.
Was it to do with the divide in the Liberal party following the Lloyd George/Asquith split? Was it that Labour was still in a sort of transition phase from “third party” to “the party of the left”, and that at any points it got in it was thanks only to an unsteady coalition with the Liberals? Was it simply due to Baldwin’s political skill, and “working-class Toryism”?
I’m not sure at all!
