6 Contributing Factors To The Popularity Of The English Premiership
The English Premier League is widely considered the best football league in the world. It is not difficult to see why this is so considering the amount of action and drama that it provides every weekend each year from August to May. The league also gets a large dose of media hype which helps it to raise its profile considerably.
With so much going for it, many football critics spend many hours trying to decipher the secret to its success. Fans love the EPL and even though the English national team has not achieved much success internationally, its domestic league flourishes without missing a heartbeat. Here are 6 more reasons why the Premiership continues to grow from strength to the strength.
1. There are plenty of goals that get scored in the league each and every week. There might be times when droughts might crop up but that happens everywhere. At the end of the day, the fans will flock to the games which produce the most goals and that is where the EPL does well.
2. The greatest clubs in the world are mostly contained within the league. Clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool not only have strong global followings but also have great brand marketability. There are also many historic moments throughout the sports history which the clubs are associated with.
3. Even though the top four clubs at the end of each season has remained largely the same in the past few years, there can be no comparison as to the number of upsets that occur in the Premiership. The smaller teams with scarce financial resources can still attain fairytale results against the traditional giants.
4. There is very little fear displayed by each and every team in the league. The consequences of being relegated at the end of the season could include the loss of the financial rewards being in the league allows. In order to avoid that fate, teams have largely decided to be more positive in their play and that often means adopting attack oriented tactics instead of being defensive and being afraid to lose.
5. The Premiership is everywhere. It is in the newspapers, on the radio and perpetually on television sets across the world. The exposure given to the league is monumental and the consistency of it helps to make sure that fans do not forget. Even when the season ends, the transfer rumors are constantly fueled by the media coverage.
6. Every sport needs its characters. Football is no different and the English Premier League has plenty in abundance. They either contribute in the form of interesting quotes or they might be involved in dramatic incidents on and off the pitch. It fuels the news hungry media to provide more coverage about the competition and in turn keep them in the public eye.
There is very little to compare the passionate action that can be produced by fans when they follow the football via epl live streaming. James Wilshire is a firm believer of that and you can also share your views with him on his football news site.

Burnley Shocks English Premier League Champion Manchester United
The English Premier League season is only a couple of weeks old, but newly promoted Burnley has already pulled off what may be the biggest upset of the season in all of European soccer. In their first home game at the top level of English soccer in 33 years, Robbie Blake scored early in the game and Burnley held on to upset reigning league champions Manchester United before 20,000 jubilant fans at their Turf Moor home pitch.
The Clarets were putting good pressure on Man U goaltender Ben Foster early in the game, and Blake made their effort pay at the 18 minute mark when he scored on a near post volley. That was the only score of the game, despite the best efforts of the visitors who seemingly awoke from their slumber at this point and began to put the pressure on the Burnley upstarts.
Still, Burnley would hold the advantage on the big scoreboard at the end of the game thanks to the steady play of their netminder Brian Jensen who withstood the Man U onslaught to preserve the historic victory. Afterwards, Burnley manager Owen Coyle commended Man U general Sir Alex Ferguson with his graciousness in defeat:
“Sir Alex dealt with defeat in the gracious manner I would expect of someone like that. He is the best manager in world football and I still expect Manchester United to be champions.”
Burnley has been the favorite to be relegated back to the Champions League, and they looked like they didnt belong after a 2-0 opening game loss to Stoke City. Coyle addressed the teams naysayers in his postgame comments:
“One or two have already written us off. I am not surprised about that. When you look at the financial side, we will have to produce every week. Outside this club, everybody looked at our first five games and expected we would be on zero points. We were disappointed on Saturday and we needed to be brave this time. Now we have a massive game on Sunday against Everton, although whatever happens we are three points better off than we were at this stage in the Championship last season.”
Sir Alex Ferguson conceded that his team didnt play well, but wasnt about to minimize Burnleys first English Premier League victory since 1976:
“It was a bad performance considering the chances and possession we had. Maybe if we had got the penalty just before half time it would have made a difference but in saying that we were too frivolous with the chances we had. It has been a long time out of the top flight for them and you cannot deny them their victory.”
Burnley will host Everton this weekend, while Manchester United will try to get back on the winning track on the road against Wigan at DW Stadium.

Sports Facts That Will Wow Your Friends
There are many obvious sports trivia facts that your typical fan could spit off effortlessly, as if it were as obvious as simple addition. Everyone knows about Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 point game, Rickey Henderson’s 130 stolen bases in a season, Joe DiMaggio’s 56 game hit streak, and other record-breaking feats.
Interestingly enough, there are plenty of obscure facts out there that happen to be just as impressive, interesting, and entertaining, as any of the more obvious ones. Let’s have a look at some of these examples. It’ll give you some great bait for parties.
Two high schools in North Carolina set the record for the most overtimes in a single game. Playing 13 overtimes, the final score was just 56-54. Makes you wonder how bad they must have been!
People admire many baseball players and what they do at the home run derby every All-Star break, but did you know that Babe Ruth once hit 125 home runs in an hour during batting practice? This is over triple anything ever hit in the home run derby. Can you imagine how much that could drain an athlete? That’s over two per minute!
Many players in recent years have served above 130 MPH, a few above 140, and a select few above 150, but Michael Sangster of England served 154 MPH in 1963, all done with a wooden racquet.
The summer olympics are the most watched sports event in the world, followed by the World Cup. What comes next? Any guesses? Don’t even try, because you’ll probably never get it. It’s Formula One Racing.
Spring training isn’t called spring training because of the time of year it takes place during. It all has to do with the fact that the 1885 White Sox decided to practice in Hot Springs, Arkansas before the start of the season.
A golfer by the name of Art Wall, Jr. hit 37 holes in one through the span of his career. This is more than any other golfer can claim.
Jack Robinson, a golfer with one arm, amazingly hit two holes in one during a four day period on the same course.
Before baseball games in 1859, umpires used to literally sit behind home plate in a rocking chair. Sounds like a pretty relaxing job.
Ari Petrof, from Sweden, set a record by staying in a sauna for longer than anyone ever had before. 5 hours, and 10 minutes. This sauna was 212 degrees. Needless to say, he probably needed a towel.
If you enjoyed this, then come to the trivia section at RootZoo sports social network for a lot more of the same kinds of facts.

The Best Competition in All of Sports
Last Saturday, the greatest sporting event in the world kicked off. No, I’m not talking about any strictly American sport, nor am I talking about MMA, basketball, or baseball, cricket, or any other sporting event that immediately comes to mind. Am I talking about the UEFA Champions’ League, the soccer glamour competition that ESPN and Fox Sports have created into a pretty common event in America? The answer remains no.
This is the FA Cup, a one of a kind tournament, the likes of which can’t be compared to anything that takes place in the US. This is a massive tournament that allows soccer teams of all sizes to compete equally against one another for a chance at glory.
You may be wondering what sets this event apart from the rest, and what makes it better. It’s the sheer size of it all. Very few events have as many contestants as 762 from the start, and very few have as many rounds (14) as the FA Cup happens to have. The beauty of this all is not only the single round elimination format, but the fact that teams of all levels have the chance to compete with one another.
It is entirely possible for huge upsets to happen (including teams known as “minnows” stunning bigger teams). It is entirely possible, if the 9th tier team were to survive that long, that Manchester United could travel to the equivalent of a high school team in American football. Can you imagine the New England Patriots coming to town and playing your local high school? While that is strange to American sports fans and would never happen in this country that is entirely possible in the FA Cup. Upsets are also commonplace. Two years ago, Barnsley FC (a second tier team) made it into the Final Four of the FA Cup, beating giant Liverpool on the road and then beating another giant in Chelsea at home.
Giant killers have become urban legends, to a certain extent, in FA Cup history. In the 1988-1989 FA Cup, non-league(meaning that they were below the 4thtier of English soccer)Sutton United upset top flight team Coventry City. In 1969, third division Mansfield Town upset West Ham United (who were currently sixth in the top division) 3-0. Perhaps no better giant killing story exists than the story of 1975 Wimbledon FC. The team, who was a non-league team at the timebeat top division team Burnley 1-0 in the third round and then followed that up by holding reigning first division champion Leeds to a 0-0 draw before narrowly losing the replay.
The unpredictability, as shown in just some of the examples above, is what makes it so special. The fact that a team such as Chelsea traveled to Coventry City last year makes the event special. Could you imagine the Packers traveling to play an Arena Football League team? Literally every team has a chance, if they keep winning, to get a huge game like that at home. Once the teams take the field, anything can happen.
The best thing I can compare it to on an American level is March Madness, only over 10 times the size. Think about the way that the 16 seeds get a chance to play behemoths like UNC, and how exciting it is for them. This brings it all to a completely new level. The possibilities are endless.
To make it even better, this tournament lasts for 10 months per year. Everyone loves March Madness, and expresses their sadness once the two weeks end. This can’t even compare when you look at the length. Watch this wonderful event if you possibly can, you won’t regret it.
